Tanya (Tatjana) Elez, Ph.D., is a psychologist who began her career volunteering in two refugee camps in the Former Yugoslavia. At the end of the war, she immigrated to Canada and, like many trained professionals navigating the challenges of resettlement, faced barriers to continuing her practice. She was fortunate to return to school and complete a Ph.D. at the University of British Columbia, reclaiming her career in psychology. Over the past thirty-plus years, she has been actively involved with refugee communities and service providers. Tanya is committed to raising awareness about refugee mental health concerns and empowering mental health professionals to engage more meaningfully with refugee populations.
